Sexual Health Advice
What is Sexual Health
The term sexual health covers a range of topics, from STI's, contaception, family planning and relationships. Looking after your sexual health is important, allowing you to protect your overall long-term health. As described by the World Health Organisation, “sexual health, when viewed affirmatively, requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence.”

Contraception
If you require contraception, please book an appointment to talk to one of our nurses. We offer two types of contraception for patients, the contraceptive pill and the injection (Sayana Press or Depo Povera).
If you have queries regarding other forms of contraception, you will need to contact Locala Sexual Health clinic.
The NHS website also offers in depth information of all forms of contraception if you wish to do your own research before speaking to a GP or nurse.
Emergency Contraception
Emergency contraception should be taken within 72 hrs, but is most effective within 48 hrs.
Initially, we ask patients to contact a local pharmacy to enquire about emergency contraception- this may be subject to a fee at the chemist although some chemists do this Free of Charge.
If you are unable to get to a local pharmacy within the above time frames, contact our reception team asking for an urgent appointemnt with one of our GP's. Please note there may be a delay with your pharmacy porcessing your prescription request if issued by a GP.
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's)
If you are worried you may have an STI, get a check-up as soon as you can. STI screening's will be held at your local Sexual Health Clinic. You can have an STI without knowing it and infect your partner during sex. It is improtant you do not have unprotected sex until you've had a check-up.
